SFH Cares
Hockey is our passion. Making a difference is our mission. While we strive to support and market cutting edge hockey events and experiences which serve to develop players abilities and character, we believe it is important to recognize how fortunate we are to be able to play and compete in a country such as ours, while others in the world and in our own country struggle to survive. Every event we promote is dedicated to a cause, big or small, which serves to better our country and world in some small way. Our latest event we promoted was dedicated to heart health and resulted in a much needed AED at our National Training Facility. See an excerpt below. Please find an excerpt from our 2007 NOCS Heart Health benefit:
"This cause is very close to our organization personally. After losing a father, coach and mentor at the young age of 45 we realized the prevalence of heart related deaths among all ages. In addition, were it not for immediate intervention and the availability of an AED on site, we would have also lost a dear mother and friend of one of our member youth players..........to heart failure. We know that sports-related deaths are rare, however, when they do happen they are commonly caused by cardiovascular problems, such as commotio cardis--cardiac arrest caused by being hit in the chest with an object. The frequency of these episodes is not known, but the survival rate is low among reported cases. However, we do know that the survival rate is increased when an automated external defibrillator (AED) is used within three minutes of impact. We hope that this device will never be used, but hope you find comfort in knowing that it is there to help save the lives of both our hockey players and the many fans, friends and supporters of our sport if they are victims of a heart related injury and or cardiac incident at this venue."
